China Beach Park, Sea Cliff Avenue, and Mountain Lake Park all form portions of the northern boundary. Stanyan Street and Masonic Avenue form the eastern border. Lincoln Way runs along the southern border.

The Golden Gate Park is inside the neighborhood on the south and accounts for almost one third of the total area. The park includes North Lake, Spreckels Lake, Polo Field Stadium, a Japanese Tea Garden, and De Young Museum. Public tennis courts and several children’s playgrounds are available to residents.

The Sutro Baths Ruins are directly north of Vista Del Mar. Land’s End Trail is a 3.5 mile scenic stretch of rocky Pacific coastline running along the northwestern part of the Northwest San Francisco neighborhood. The University of San Francisco and related campus facilities are included in the eastern section of the community.

Park Presidio Boulevard runs in a north-south direction from Golden Gate Park to the Presidio of San Francisco Park area where it returns to the name of Highway 1. At the northern most point of the park Highway 1 splits into Highway 101 traveling east and the Golden Gate Bridge heading north.
