Blount Island Apartments for Rent

Blount Island is located northeast of downtown Jacksonville on the St. Johns River. The island is about nine miles west of the Atlantic Ocean and spans about 2,000 acres. Blount Island is strictly industrial; no houses are located on the island. However, there is some lake-front housing scattered near the island. Homes surrounding Blount Island are affordable, and residents here can get much more for their money vs. other, more developed parts of Jacksonville. Living in the area is especially convenient for the many employed on the island.

Blount Island is home to Jacksonville Port Authority’s largest of three container facilities on the western side of the island. This facility alone takes up over 700 acres. This facility handles over 80% of all container cargo at the port. Thousands of square feet are dedicated storage on the island. The island also has a Container Freight Station for cross-dock efficiency.

Over ten miles of railroad tracks were laid on Blount Island in the 1960s in order to help facilitate on-dock rail service at the terminal. The tracks run along Blount Island Boulevard and cross the St. Johns River via the Blount Island Boulevard Bridge to Highway 105.

The close proximity of Blount Island to major interstates is an important factor for trucks accessing the island. I-295 is located one mile west of the island, I-95 is located about five miles away, I-10 is just west of I-295 and I-75 is about 60 miles west. Access to the island is by Blount Island Boulevard or Dave Rawls Boulevard.

Blount Island is also home to the United States Marine Corps Blount Island Command.

Just north of Blount Island lies Big Talbot Island State Park. This nature preserve offers miles of wildlife for nature study and bird watching. Visitors here can picnic, hike, bike, fish or camp.
