Benteen Park is a small neighborhood located to the south of Custer Avenue and east of Boulevard Southeast. The neighborhood is part of Atlanta, Ga.
Located in the neighborhood is Benteen Park. This popular area park is light on amenities, but provides a regular place for people to get together for physical activity. The park has a playground area for small children, as well as a few large fields used by residents. The park regularly has a fierce neighborhood football battle.
Located about three miles northwest of the neighborhood is Turner Field. Turner Field is the home of the professional baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. The Braves are the pride of the Atlanta area, as it is common to see people wearing clothing, flying banners, and showing their support for the team in a variety of other ways. The field was originally used for the Centennial Olympic Games in 1996 and since then has been converted into a 50,000-seat baseball park for the Atlanta Braves.
Further north on Phillips Drive is Philips Arena. This massive arena is home to professional basketball team, the Atlanta Hawks; the professional hockey team, the Atlanta Thrashers; and the women’s basketball team, the Atlanta Dream. When the arena is not in use by professional sports teams, it hosts a large variety of events, including big-name concerts, magic shows, and freestyle motorcycle shows, among other major shows.
Directly across from Philips Arena is the Georgia World Congress Center. This 71,500-seat domed stadium is the home of the professional football team, the Atlanta Falcons. The stadium was also host to the Super Bowl in 1994. In addition to hosting football games, it is also a popular venue for other major events and concerts. The large seating capacity makes it an ideal venue for some of the largest events that come through the Atlanta area.
