Blandtown Apartments for Rent
(hide neighborhood information)The Blandtown neighborhood lies between Howell Mill Road and West Marietta Street NW. This modest west-Midtown neighborhood borders the Atlanta City Water Works Reservoir Number One. Once a railroad residential community, Blandtown has a rich history and is considered one of Atlanta’s best-kept secrets.
After the Civil War, the railway industry moved into the area. Modest bungalow homes were built for the industry workers. Some Blandtown residents have owned their properties for generations. Others have moved, and industry has taken their places. The area has evolved into an industrial center mixed with antique and art studios and the homes of long-time residents. The result is a trendy mixed-use neighborhood that has residents anticipating a new era of prosperity for the neighborhood.
There are a variety of art schools and studios in the area. The Art Institute of Atlanta is on Peachtree Dunwoody Road and features art classes, web design, cooking, fashion, game design, and more. The Kennesaw State University Art Center is located on Chastain Road NW. The Decatur School of Ballet, the Ballroom Dance Clubs, and the Talbert–Yemaz School of Dance are located in Blandtown as well.
Area studios include the Funky Paintbrush, the Portal Gallery, Kopaliani Studios, and Actor’s Express. There are a number of publishing businesses as well, such as Rolling Stone Press.
Other neighborhood schools include the Howard School, Bell Rock High Fashion DC, the Paul Mitchell School, and the Bridge Family Center.
Blandtown is also part of the Beltline project corridor. This dynamic project connects neighborhoods, parks and other greenspaces along a 22-mile loop of historic rail lines that circle the center of Atlanta. The Beltline features new transit systems, hiking and biking trails, new parks, improved housing and shopping, and much more. The Beltline is expected to give new life to many neighborhoods, including Blandtown.
Favorite neighborhood restaurants and pubs include Paul’s, which features Chef Paul’s global cuisine. Others are Central City Tavern, the Highland Cigar Company, Flip, Bone Garden Cantina, and Counter Culture Coffee.
