Forest Acres is a neighborhood in northern Raleigh, North Carolina, less than 10 minutes from the downtown area. This residential community covers .064 square miles and has more than 120 residents. It is bounded by Young Street on the north, Mills Street on the south, Wake Forest Road on the west, and Ann Street on the east. Interstate 440 runs past the neighborhood within a mile to the northeast, and U.S. Highway traverses the area within a half-mile to the south. As the name might suggest, the Forest Acres neighborhood is heavily wooded, providing residents with privacy and shade. It consists mostly of single-family homes. Some of the homes date back to pre-1940, but neighborhood construction continued through 1998. The 1940s and 1950s saw the community’s biggest building booms, which means that this neighborhood has an older feel.

Being situated close to major roadways and the downtown area means that Forest Acres is convenient to many area amenities. Several higher education options can be found to the south, near the downtown area. The largest of these is North Carolina State University, one of the state’s most prominent public institutions. The downtown area also features several cultural attractions, including the State Capitol, Museum of Natural Sciences, and Marbles Kids Museum.

Several medical centers are also situated nearby, including Duke Raleigh Hospital to the north and the Wakemed Hospital – Raleigh Campus to the southeast.

For outdoor recreation and physical activity, the Carolina Country Club is situated about two miles northwest of Forest Acres. Although many neighborhood residents may not be able to afford the membership dues, for those who can, the club offers one of the area’s most challenging 18-hole courses and several other amenities, like tennis courts, aquatics, and fitness facilities.

For less expensive outdoor recreation, residents head roughly five miles northwest to the William B. Umstead State Park. Amenities here include camping, hiking, biking, picnicking, wildlife viewing, and boating. Adjacent to the state park is the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
