Old Beechwold is the original site of the Columbus Zoo and Amusement park, which opened in 1905. The Park lasted only a short while and then became the Old Beechwold subdivision.

Interstate 71 is just 3 minutes east of Old Beechwold and North High Street is the main north-south arterial road in the center city.

There are several parks in the area. Delawanda Park is north two blocks on the Olentanty River, with soccer fields and green spaces, and room to fish. South on North High Street is The Whetstone Park of Roses and Recreation center with baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and basketball diamonds as well as classes and activities in the recreation center.
