South Linden is a large, mostly residential neighborhood in northeast Columbus, within Franklin County. This community is roughly 10 minutes from the heart of the downtown area. It extends to the railroad tracks, Ontario Street, Greenwich Street, Interstate 71, Highway 3, and St. Clair Avenue on the west and to Joyce Avenue and Billiter Boulevard on the east. Its northern boundary is created by East Hudson Street, Briarwood Avenue, and Aberdeen Avenue, and its southern boundary is comprised of East 14th Avenue, Camden Avenue, and Shoemaker Avenue.

I-71 traverses the neighborhood on the west, providing residents with easy access to the rest of the city. South Linden encompasses the 43211 and 43219 ZIP codes.

This neighborhood covers more than 2.14 square miles and has more than 11,280 residents. Most of the homes here were constructed prior to 1970, with a good portion dating prior to 1940. There are several amenities within South Linden bounds, including two community parks, Windsor Park and Maloney Park. The Columbus Crew Stadium, a major league soccer facility, can also be found within neighborhood bounds.

Several significant attractions are within a few miles of the South Linden neighborhood. To the west is The Ohio State University, one of the state’s most prominent public schools. Established in 1870, the university spans several square miles, serves more than 64,075 students, and was recently ranked in the top 20 public universities in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

The median age in South Linden is 26, and the average household income in 2008 was well below the city average. Combining this information with the community’s proximity to the university points to a neighborhood with a large student population.

Within a few miles east of South Linden is another significant attraction, the Port Columbus International Airport.
