Oakwood Neighborhood
Oakwood is a neighborhood in western Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, about five miles from the heart of the downtown area. It is bound by Crafton Boulevard and Baldwick Road on the north and Morange Road on the south. On the west it extends to Chartiers Avenue, and on the east it is bounded by Noblestown Road. The zip code for Oakwood is 15205, and it is part of Allegheny County.
The Oakwood community spans more than .325 square miles and is home to 1,020 residents. It is largely residential, but a significant amount of the western and eastern portion of the neighborhood is devoted to undeveloped woodlands. The residences consist of single-family homes on spacious lots with ample shade trees.
The southern portion of the community hosts a neighborhood park by the same name. Oakwood Park offers an outdoor swimming area with several different pools, two tennis courts, a basketball court, and a baseball/softball field.
Just outside neighborhood bounds on the north is Crafton Elementary School on Crafton Boulevard. Just beyond the community’s southern boundary is Bishop Canevin High School on Morange Road.
Avid golfers have two options within a short drive of the Oakwood neighborhood. Crafton Golf Course, a public course, is situated just a half-mile northwest of the community. Roughly one-half mile west is the Chartiers Heights Country Club. This prestigious private club offers a championship 18-hole course that was updated in the 1990s by Arthur Hills. The club also offers a full-size swimming pool, full-service bars, and dining options.
For more to see and do, residents of Oakwood are just 12 minutes from the heart of the downtown area. Here, the shopping, dining, and entertainment options abound. Among the major attractions are cultural and live music venues, prominent higher education options like Pitt and Carnegie Mellon, and the home fields of several professional sports teams.
