Ensley Highlands Neighborhood

Ensley Highlands is a curvy neighborhood with plenty of terrain changes and slight hills. Trees create a nice pocket around the neighborhood that makes it feel much more secluded even though it is in a well developed section of town. Situated just south of Interstate 20, residents are able to quickly travel throughout the region while still enjoying the quiet streets within the neighborhood. Since Ensley Highlands is part of a largely residential area, streets are relatively peaceful, perfect for the many families that live here.

Homes in Ensley Highlands are older homes built mostly out of brick with wood panel. Since the community is built partially into hills, many of the homes are split level adding some interesting architectural elements.

Much of the surrounding area is built for families with a number of parks, schools, and churches providing plenty of opportunity for children and parents to interact with one another. Since family is important here, it is no surprise that youth sports are popular destinations throughout the week. Highlands Park off of Avenue T is the closest park in the area and features a number of amenities. The park is used for soccer, football, and baseball and also has a tennis court, playground, and swimming pool.

Nearby, off of Warrior Drive is the historic Oakland Cemetery, which is the final resting place of some of the earliest Italian immigrants to the area. The cemetery provides an important permanent display of area history.

Other popular destinations include the Birmingham Public Library and Miles College less than a mile to the south off of Bessemer Road and Avenue W. There are also a number of dining and shopping options here as well.
