Norwood Neighborhood

Norwood sits along the northern border of Interstate 59 and Interstate 20, within the 35203 and 35234 zip codes. It is known for having some of the oldest homes in the Birmingham region, with the large majority of the homes built prior to 1960 and a large number that were built in the early 1900s. Brick construction, along with varying styles, makes each home unique here. Large trees line the sidewalks providing excellent shade for the walkers, runners, and children who enjoy the outdoors.

While Norwood itself is highly residential, it is close to downtown Birmingham, with many of the best attractions only about a mile away from the neighborhood. Residents have a number of options for entertainment, whether their interests are shopping, art, music, or just a place to have fun with the family.

Directly within the Norwood neighborhood are a number of popular features such as the Norwood Community Center on 13th Avenue, across from Kirby Middle School. The community center provides a place for residents to meet for activities, sports, classes, and more. Many children come here for team sports and many adults take advantage of community enrichment programs. The community center is also part of Norwood Park, which has a baseball field, basketball courts, a playground, and even a lap swimming pool.

Less than a mile southwest of Norwood, just off Interstate 59/20, is the Birmingham – Jefferson Convention Center. This large venue hosts some of the biggest events in the region, such as wedding shows, reptile shows, and even home and garden shows. At less than a mile away, it is a great place to take the family for the day.
