South Roebuck Neighborhood

South Roebuck is a beautiful neighborhood in Birmingham, Alabama. Heavy forests from Ruffner Mountain Park provide wonderful vegetation to the south offering a number of exciting recreational opportunities for residents as well as wonderful scenery. The park itself includes numerous trails that are perfect for hikers, bird watchers and photographers, and a number of other amenities including a nature park. Raptors, snakes, owls and turtles are often displayed for visitors to see local wildlife up close. Ruffner Mountain Park was originally an important part of the steel industry supplying iron ore from several mines and quarries. The park was created after the mines were closed down in the 1950s.

Homes in South Roebuck are mostly modern with many red brick split-level and single-story dwellings. Large yards, sidewalks and a youth play field off of Shadywood Drive make this area perfect for the modern family. The play area itself is a popular gathering spot for families and their children with numerous baseball fields and a multiple purpose field for a variety of different activities.

South Roebuck also has opportunities for shopping and dining with a number of major national brand name stores and restaurants as well as local offerings to the north of the neighborhood along Parkway East. Parkway East is home of the Roebuck Municipal Golf Course. Roebuck, which is a small public course, is one of the more popular golf destinations in the region. A nice clubhouse with helpful staff make the course more enjoyable with useful tips and tricks.
