Orange Grove Neighborhood

Orange Grove is a neighborhood made up of mostly large apartment complexes and multi-family dwellings. Some of the newest have been designed to reflect the proud architectural history of the city. The Orange Grove neighborhood is bound by I-165, Beauregard Street, and Lawrence Street.

The neighborhood is very close to some of the best entertainment sites in the city. Just south of Orange Grove, the Saenger Theatre is the home of the Summer Movie Series, concerts, special events, and performances by the Mobile Symphony Orchestra. It is an historic old building, dating to 1927 and recently restored to reveal its former grandeur. Another great theater is not far away. Joe Jefferson’s Playhouse is the state’s oldest continuously running theater and was voted “Best Community Theater” recently by Mobile residents.

Orange Grove residents enjoy quick access to other top sites, including the Museum of Mobile, the Exploreum, the Conde-Charlotte House and Fort Conde. Nearby is a world-famous site, the USS Battleship Alabama. Memorial Park surrounds the famous ship, which saw battle in both the Atlantic and Pacific before being towed to this site after World War II.

Government Street Bridge provides easy access to the site, and to the bays just beyond the neighborhood. These include Polecat Bay and Chacaloochee Bay, before becoming Mobile Bay. With so much water nearby, finding a favorite fishing spot should not be difficult!

Many small and lovely parks can be found all around Mobile, and Orange Grove is no different. Owens School Park sits at the north boundary of Orange Grove, and provides acres of trails along streams through a heavily-wooded area.

Another fascinating place lies just east, Alabama State Docks and the cruise ship docks. Those who love the water and large ships will find hours of fascination and fun here.
