River Mountain Neighborhood

Spacious homes and quaint suburban streets emerge from the thick pine forest surrounding the community of River Mountain. Not far from its western border, the 1011 feet rocky peak of Pinnacle Mountain looms over this Little Rock suburb; it’s a reminder to the growing city that nature still reigns supreme in the Arkansas River Valley.

River Mountain is a community of contrast between suburban sprawl and rural communities. Its borders are a testimony to that. To the east are Interstate 430 and the rest of the capital city of Arkansas; to its north are the mighty Arkansas River, Murray Lake and River Mountain Park; and in the west is Pinnacle Mountain State Park. Within its borders are patches of wooded areas encapsulated between country roads, two-lane highways and residential streets.

Pinnacle Mountain State Park is a hiker’s paradise. Along with a peak that has a panoramic view of Little Rock, Arkansas River Valley and various lakes in the area, there are hidden trails creeks and ponds under the thick green canopy of its forest.

Hiking in the nearest parks is not the only activity available to River Mountain residents. Avid golfers have Pleasant Valley Country Club located southeast of the community. Boaters and yachtsmen have the river, Murray Lake and Lake Maumelle, a large reservoir to the west of Pinnacle Mountain State Park.

Still, it’s River Mountain’s proximity to nature that is most appealing to its residents and to visiting campers. Maumelle Public Use Area along Murray Lake — and off of Pinnacle Valley Road — is highly rated as an RV park, boat launch area, and an ideal access point to Pinnacle Mountain State Park.

River Mountain may be a growing community, but the country is not far from its suburban doorsteps.
