Pleasanton is about 25 miles from Oakland and is an upscale suburb. It is home to several businesses, including Kaiser Permanente, Oracle, and Safeway.
North of Oakland is the city of Berkeley, home to the University of California, Berkeley. UC Berkeley was established in 1868 and is one of the most prestigious universities in the world. It is the oldest university in the University of California system.
