Convention Center Neighborhood
Anaheim first became a meeting and convention destination during the late 1960s after the construction of the domed Arena along Katella Avenue. During those times, the Anaheim Convention Center went into a series of expansion projects until the area officially became the present Anaheim Convention Center and its surrounding Convention Center district.
Located in a strategic spot within Southern California, the Anaheim Convention Center has over 40 years of history and service to the event industry. Its Anaheim Arena can accommodate thousands of people and the total facility area covers about 1.6 million square feet.
The Convention Center borders West Katella Avenue on the north, Orangewood Avenue on the south, South Jacalene Lane and South West Street on the west, and South Harbor Boulevard on the east. It is situated right across from the Disneyland Resort. It is also near Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, Toontown, and Doubletree Guest Suites Anaheim Resort and Convention Center. It is also home to the Anaheim Orange County Visitor and Convention Bureau.
Nearby shops include Harbor Town and Country Shopping Center, and Garden Grove Shopping Center. The area is easily accessible from the Santa Ana Freeway.
Most of the surrounding areas of the Convention Center are commercial spots. A very few residential areas are found along West LaMark Lane south of the Convention Center. However, the southwest and southeast areas just outside its border feature a number of residential spots and parks including the Sierra Park, Pioneer Park and Ponderosa Park.
The Convention Center is a few minutes away from major Anaheim key commercial and medical establishments in the city including the Crystal Cathedral, University of California, Irvine Medical Center, and Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center. It is also about 12 miles away from the Orange County Airport.
