Woodley Neighborhood

Woodley is a picturesque, recreational area off of Woodley Avenue (its namesake) in the South Valley area of Van Nuys, part of the greater Los Angeles area. It’s bordered by Victory Boulevard, the San Diego Freeway/405, Ventura Freeway/101, and Balboa Boulevard.

The eastern part of the Woodley community consists of Woodley Park, an unlocked park that is open during all daylight hours. It features picnic tables, barbecue sections, unlit baseball field, archery range, Apollo 3 flight field, playground for children, cricket fields, and public restrooms. There is also a wildlife reservation area.

Suiho En, the Japanese Garden, is located along Woodley Avenue. It is called the garden of water and fragrance. It’s a 6.5-acre, perfectly manicured, picturesque, and authentic Japanese garden. It includes a dry garden, a wet garden, and a tea ceremony garden. It hosts tours and special events.

The massive Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area takes up the southern portion of the Woodley area. There’s a nine-mile bike path in and around the recreation area. The Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area offers picnic tables, sprawling golf courses, softball fields, open parkland, public restrooms, and water fountains.

Also within Wesley is the Sherman Oaks Castle Park, a popular amusement park that draws people from all over Los Angeles. It offers miniature golf, an arcade, batting cages, rides, and it hosts parties of all kinds. Balboa Sports Center and Hjelte Sports Center are also within the Woodley area. The Hjelte Sports Center has a popular, lit baseball field.

Golf is also a specialty of the area. Encino Golf Course, Balboa Golf Course, and Woodley Lakes Golf Course are all located here. The Encino Golf Course is a medium-sized course, and it has several par three challenges. The Balboa Golf Course is a short-sized course, and the Woodley Lakes Golf Course offers wide fairways and is home to several forms of wildlife.
