Today, the restored mission offers tours, is available for weddings and baptisms, hosts concerts, and includes a gift shop.
It wasn’t until the California Gold Rush that Fremont started to grow, with the town taking its name from the mission. The town Mission San Jose opened a post office in 1850 and became a popular grape-growing region. An earthquake in 1868 destroyed most of the buildings in Fremont, including the old mission.
