Bolsa Chica-Heil Neighborhood
Bolsa Chica-Heil is one of the neighborhoods of Huntington Beach. Many of its homes were built in the late 1960s or early 1970s, so the neighborhood has a mature look. The homes are a mix of single-family dwellings and townhouses.
The community has three schools, Village View Elementary, Springview Middle School, and Marina High School. Residents can take advantage of the standard fast food restaurants as well as a variety of ethnic cuisine such as Japanese, Mexican, and Italian.
Bolsa Chica-Heil is bordered on the north by Edinger Avenue, Heil Avenue to the south, Bolsa Chica to the west, and Graham Avenue to the east. Huntington Harbor is a more affluent neighborhood to the north and is less than five miles away. People enjoy kayaking and boating through the waterways that surround the five man-made islands. It is a 10-minute drive to the Huntington Beach municipal pier, where the U.S. Open of Surfing is held every summer.
Four miles away is Bolsa Chica State Beach, where surf fishing for perch, croaker, borbina, and sand shark is popular. The beach is also popular for the bare-handed grunion run. The bike trail starts there and runs seven miles to Huntington State Beach.
Across the street from Bolsa Chica State Beach is the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. It is a bird watcher’s paradise, with 300 acres designated as a sanctuary for wildlife and migratory birds. Getting to these attractions is easy with the Orange County Transit Authority. Buses run about every 20 minutes and charge reasonable rates. The Pacific Coast Highway runs next to the beach and the marsh, providing families with access to beach activities throughout the year.
Bolsa Chica-Heil is a perfect community for taking in the sun and the surf while enjoying the benefits of a traditional neighborhood.
