Belmont Heights Neighborhood

The sky above the Belmont Heights neighborhood in Long Beach has become very colorful—and loud. A large population of feral parrots has made the palm trees home. It’s not uncommon to see a red and green flock take flight above the neighborhood.

Beside the parrots, this residential community has other attractions. It has a beach with a bike path that stretches from downtown Long Beach to Alamitos Bay and the mouth of the San Gabriel River. Belmont Pier, a public swimming pool, and several eateries are nearby.

Belmont Heights is bound by Redondo Avenue to the west, 7th Street to the north, Nieto Avenue to the east, Ocean Boulevard to the south, and Livingston Drive to the southeast. Redondo Avenue and Ocean Boulevard are major routes in the community. Redondo Avenue heads north toward Signal Hill and Long Beach Airport. Ocean Boulevard connects the community to the beach, pier, and communities near Alamitos Bay.

The area east of Nieto Avenue and near Alamitos Bay is a park and recreational zone. Will Rogers Mini Park and Marina Vista Park are nearby. Marina Vista is the larger of the two and has an open field, baseball diamond, and tennis courts. A small boat launch area for Alamitos Bay is along Boathouse Lane.

Nearby, on Alamitos Bay, is Marine Stadium Park. This long stretch or waterway in the northeastern portion of the bay is popular with small watercraft enthusiasts, as well as with rowboat teams as a place to race their vehicles. The Long Beach Rowing Association, located on its eastern shore, is just one group that regularly races here.

Schools that serve the Belmont Heights neighborhood include Lowell Elementary School and Will Rogers Elementary school. They are located between Nieto Avenue and Appian Way.
