Bixby Hill Neighborhood

With beaches, parks, and schools just minutes away, Bixby Hill is in an ideal location for students and professionals in southeast Long Beach. The neighborhood is one of the few in Long Beach with both large houses and large lots, which average slightly less than one-fifth acre. Houses range from 2,000 square feet to 4,000 square feet. Most were built in the 1960s and 1970s, and have spacious garages. The community is gated with a 24-hour guard at the entrance.

Bixby Hill is in zip code 90815, and the neighborhood entrance is on Palo Verde Avenue off East State University Drive. The neighborhood is in the Long Beach Unified School District, and children can attend Kettering Elementary School, Hill Classical Middle School and Wilson High School.

Bixby Hill is across the street from California State University, Long Beach, which has the third largest enrollment of any university in California, with almost 40,000 students. The university is known for its excellent value and masters degree programs. Visitors and students can enjoy the University Art Museum’s collection of abstract expressionist paintings, performances at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center, and the peaceful Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden.

Nearby College Estates Park has basketball courts, a playground and a small community center. Marina Vista Park welcomes sports enthusiasts with tennis courts, soccer fields and softball fields. Golfers have many choices, including the Recreation Park Golf Course, a popular public course nicknamed “Big Rec.” There is also the Bixby Village Golf Course, which is a nine-hole, executive-length course. Bixby Hill is 10 minutes from Seal Beach, which is known for surfing and for having the second-longest wooden pier in California.
