Central Alameda Neighborhood

Central Alameda is one of the neighborhoods located in downtown Los Angeles. It is bordered by South Central Avenue to the west, and South Alameda Street borders the community to the east. East Vernon Avenue serves as the northern border of Central Alameda, and East Slauson Avenue serves as its southern border. It is an urban community with many apartment buildings, duplexes, and businesses.

Several of the streets are lined with evergreen and palm trees. Central Alameda is a family-friendly community. The Hooper Avenue Elementary School is just outside the Central Alameda neighborhood and is within walking distance of anywhere in the community. St. Odilia School is a highly acclaimed school which is also located in the neighborhood. Ascot Avenue Elementary School lies in the northern part of the community and is noted for scholastic achievement.

The Slauson Senior Center is prominent in the southeastern section of the Central Alameda neighborhood. Its multiple-purpose room serves as a community room or small theater and auditorium. Augustus F. Hawkins Nature Park, Fred Roberts Recreation Center, Latham Park, and Vernon Library Pocket Park are a few other leisure-time venues also located in the community of Central Alameda.

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is a large, entertaining, and educational museum that teaches about both history and science. It is only two and a half miles northwest of Central Alameda. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which has hosted two summer Olympic games, is just two miles northwest of the community, while the California African-American Museum is also approximately two miles northwest of Central Alameda.
