Florence-Graham has a population of about 60,000. It is bounded by South Central Avenue on the west, East Slauson Avenue on the north, and South Alameda Street on the east. It has an uneven southern border ranging from East 92nd Street to East 103rd Street.
Florence-Graham contains five elementary schools and two middle schools. The nearest high school is John C. Fremont High School.
The area has two library branches, Florence and Graham, which both have a long history. The Florence library was founded in 1914, and Graham in 1915. In addition to their collections, the branches also host community events. Florence has frequent story time hours for kids under eight and their caregivers, featuring stories and songs in both English and Spanish. Graham has a variety of activities for adults, teens, and children, including teen chess and anime clubs, an adult book club, kids’ story time, and crafts instruction.
There are several parks in the neighborhood. Franklin D. Roosevelt Park was built as part of the Work Projects Administration in the 1930s, and is one of the oldest parks in the Los Angeles park system. It has facilities for basketball, tennis, and soccer. It also has a swimming pool, gym, computer center, and senior center. It hosts organized activities and events for ages three up to senior citizens, including sports leagues, dance, aerobics, arts and crafts, meal programs for seniors, cheerleading, and various clubs.
The South Gate Plaza shopping center is a couple of miles away.
