The eastern portion of the Hills is off of the 101 Freeway and near Interstate 5. The neighborhoods are mostly residential, though there are some neighborhood markets and cafes in the Beachwood and Laurel Canyon areas.
On weekends and weekday afternoons, residents often can be found hiking the many trails in Griffith Park or the always popular Runyon Canyon. Another popular hike is through the neighborhoods, with residents and other Angelenos walking up steep staircases built by Italian stoneworkers in the 1920s to link the neighborhood together.
