Old Las Palmas Neighborhood

Palm Springs is located east of Los Angeles, California and just on the other side on the eastern edge of the Jacinta Mountains. Just to the northeast of the center of Palm Springs is the Old Las Palmas neighborhood. It is an upscale community with adobe brick walls ensuring privacy from the streets.

Schools serving the Old Las Palmas area include Katherine Finchy Elementary, Raymond Cree Middle School and Palm Springs High School.

Palm Springs is the home of many celebrities, but the economy here revolves around tourism. The winter months are especially vibrant; it is winter when many of the popular festivals are held. Casino gambling is also a major draw here.

There are no fewer than 125 golf courses in the Palm Springs area. The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic is held on four courses here: Silver Rock Resort; La Quinta Country Club, “the jewel of the desert;” the Nicklaus Private Course at PGA West; and the Palmer Private Course at PGA West.

Professional tennis also dominates here in the form of the BNP Paribas Open, and there are many boxing events.

Numerous hotels, many of them five-star quality, along with restaurants and high-end boutiques, cater to visitors and tourists.

There are quite a few casinos and casino resort hotels in Palm Springs. Among them are the Spa Resort Casino, Spotlight 29 Casino, Aqua Calilente Casino, Fantasy Springs Casino and Casino Morongo.

In the mountains are numerous climbing, camping, hiking and sightseeing opportunities. There are also several tram rides that travel from the desert floor to the tops of mountains for thrilling panoramic views of the scenery.
