West Atherton Neighborhood

The town of Atherton, California, is on a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay. Atherton’s communities maintain a scenic residential feeling with open spaces and mature trees, offering an escape from big-city life. The Tree Committee was formed in 1989 to help preserve and protect the natural beauty of the area.

El Camino Real borders West Atherton on the north. Alameda De Las Pulgas is its southern boundary, and Valparaiso Avenue is its eastern boundary. A portion of Selby Lane and Stockbridge Avenue form the western border. The area is predominated by large, luxurious homes on spacious lots. Many residences have private pools and tennis courts.

Selby Lane Elementary School is on the western border of the neighborhood. The Cartan Athletic Fields is inside the community in the northeastern portion, on El Camino Real. The Menlo Circus Club invites residents for membership and includes an equestrian center and tennis facilities.

Stanford University is just to the east of the neighborhood. Stanford Shopping Center is at the corner of Sand Hill Road and El Camino Road. Residents are only a short drive from the San Francisco Bay and Bayfront Park to the east. Just to the west, they can enjoy Horse Park at Woodside, Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, and Searsville Lake.

West Atherton is situated halfway between Highway 101 and the 280 Freeway, allowing residents plenty of commuting choices. The Palo Alto Caltrain station is on the corner of Alma Street and Palm Drive. Public transportation is also available throughout the area.
