Riverside at a Glance
Woodcrest Neighborhood
Originally an orange grove surrounded by a few homes in the early 1900s, the Woodcrest neighborhood has continued to grow since then, and today the original homes, built into the hills around Van Buren Boulevard and Washington Street, remain beautiful but have become quite costly. Luckily for residents in this Riverside, California neighborhood, zip code 92504, the million dollar homes in the hills have been balanced by more affordable homes and multifamily dwellings.
Woodcrest is bordered on the west by Mockingbird Canyon Road, a mix of single-family homes and large equestrian properties. The northern boundary is Markham Street where there are newer single-family homes and older mobile homes on large home sites. The eastern border is Wood Avenue, where new neighborhoods have created more affordable homes and new schools. Throughout this area are multifamily dwellings. The northern border trails off into the hills with the large homes on acreage and zoned for horses.
Woodcrest is bisected by Van Buren Boulevard, a major route through the area, bypassing downtown Riverside. It is also the location of a multitude of retail stores and restaurants.
Woodcrest is six miles south of downtown Riverside and provides easy access to all the city has to offer. It borders the California Citrus State Historic Park and the few remaining orange groves that made Riverside, at one time, the richest city in the country. The State Park is a working orange grove with a visitor’s center sharing the history of the area, and offers a great place for a hike and family picnic.
Despite all the newer development, the Woodcrest neighborhood has managed to retain its original small-town feel, which makes this community a desireable place to live.
