Bayview Neighborhood
Bayview is a neighborhood in San Francisco, California in the 94124 zip code. The boundaries of Bayview are Cesar Chavez Street on the north, James Lick Freeway on the west, and San Francisco Bay on the south. This is a highly populated area with a few single family detached homes, lots of apartments, condos and colorful row houses. They have a very distinctive style, with the garage on the first level and the living area on the second floor. Many have bay windows, some even have a bay view. This area is about seven miles south of downtown.
Candlestick Park is located in Bayview. This is the home-field of the San Francisco 49ers. It was originally built for the San Francisco Giants with 60 acres of land that was taken from Candlestick Point State Recreational Area. The Beatles played their last live concert here in 1966.
Candlestick Point State Recreation Area has beautiful views of San Francisco Bay. In addition to the views, it offers sandy beaches, two fishing piers, picnic tables, and grills. Bird watching is particularly good here in the winter. The bay itself at this point is a favorite with windsurfers. There are over a mile of bay side trails for hiking and biking.
Bayview Park is a delightful little park that has a trail up to the top of a very steep hill and offers stellar views. It is a great place to walk a dog or to have a picnic.
There are several schools located in this neighborhood. There are three public elementary schools, Bret Harte and George Washington Carver, offer classes for students in grades K-5, Charles Drew College Preparatory Academy offers grades K-3. For Pre-K through Kindergarten, there is the Big City Montessori School. Kipp Bayview Academy is a middle school for grades 5-8.
