Apartments for Rent in Forest Hill
San Francisco at a Glance
Forest Hill Neighborhood
San Francisco is a unique city consisting of neighborhoods that hug the hills, nestle in the valleys, ride along the bay, or march in stately progression to the Pacific Ocean. Some neighborhoods behave like separate small villages and towns and even have their own micro climates.
The Forest Hill neighborhood is in a hilly area of south central San Francisco and is west of Laguna Honda Boulevard, east of 14th Street, and north of Taraval Street. This exclusive neighborhood has the only homeowner’s association for detached homes in the city. As one of the least densely populated parts of the city, there is the feel of a distinctly separate and lushly landscaped small town. Forest Hill is in the 94116 zip code.
The Arts and Crafts style of the community center and some of the homes lend an even more unique character to Forest Hill. Some of the homes were designed by the renowned architect Bernard Maybeck and have been lovingly cared for. This is also one of the most heavily treed neighborhoods in the city.
The Laguna Honda Hospital and medical complex lies directly to the east and the newly remodeled JP Murphy Playground is to the northeast. Golden Gate Heights Park with its hilly trails, fern groves, ocean views, and spectacular trees lies to the south. Taraval Street is a major commercial and business corridor and offers supermarkets, restaurants, and various other businesses. The Parkside Farmer’s Market is at Taraval and 16th Streets to the south.
Herbert Hoover Middle School is on the western edge of the neighborhood and West Portal Elementary School is just south of Taraval Street. There are several public and private high schools nearby, including Riordan High School and the Ruth Asawa School for the Arts.
