Russian Hill Neighborhood

The scent of salty ocean air sweeps over the Russian Hill neighborhood in San Francisco like a fine mist that energizes the environment. Clanging cable cars, one of San Francisco’s biggest attractions, ring like a loudspeaker, beckoning visitors to ride. The Russian Hill district is situated close to the shoreline of San Francisco Bay between the Bay Bridge that leads east to Oakland and the Golden Gate Bridge that takes people into Northern California.

People in the Russian Hill neighborhood enjoy visiting the San Francisco Art Institute, Ghirardelli Square, and the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park. The San Francisco Art Institute is an incredible institution for students, featuring numerous activities like exhibits, symposiums, lectures, and films that encourage visitors to engage in the larger community of artists throughout the world. Ghirardelli Square is world famous for its chocolate.

An entire day can be spent touring and tasting treats while meandering through the square. The San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park is positioned at the north end of the Russian Hill community, buffering the neighborhood from the sea. It is an exciting destination where people can visit the fleet museum and research center, charter deep sea fishing boats, and tour Fisherman’s Wharf.

San Francisco is a city with an abundance of hills. Russian Hill Park, established south of Ghirardelli Square, was developed on one of San Francisco’s many hilltops. It has acres of open space, providing exquisite views of the city. Lombard Street, one of San Francisco’s biggest attractions, is a brick road with a direct route through the park. It is an extremely steep, one-way street that zigzags east and west, across 12 city blocks and is one of many popular destinations in the Russian Hill neighborhood.
