Mayfair Neighborhood

The Mayfair district in San Jose, California is located in the northeast quadrant of San Jose, in a well-established, historical part of town. The region is a busy metropolitan area, situated between Interstate 680 and the 101 freeway, both of which lead to different parts of the downtown area and beyond. The Mayfair community is in a transitional part of town, essentially considered part of the downtown area, but also bordering the suburbs that developed as the town grew and evolved.

The Mayfair Community Garden, along with the Mayfair Community Center adjacent to it, is a result of combined public efforts to enhance the Mayfair neighborhood. It is positioned on a fairly large segment of land in the north section of the community. The garden provides individual plots of land to residents who want to grow their own gardens, while the community center hosts an array of activities. Their facility includes a large public swimming pool, art galleries, water play areas, and a skateboard park, as well as many other engaging features.

San Jose State University was founded in the heart of downtown San Jose, minutes from the Mayfair neighborhood. It is a beautiful campus consisting of vibrant gardens and exquisite buildings, and displaying architecture from various time periods, some of which is hundreds of years old. The downtown area has a thriving population that does not dismiss its heritage easily.

San Jose is a charming city, a place where growth and development create opportunities to preserve history, incorporating it into the surrounding scenery. Visitors walk down city streets full of historical landmarks, ancient trees, and small businesses that have been flourishing for many, many years.
