Waterfront Neighborhood

Up the Pacific Coast Highway from Los Angeles, California in the city of Santa Barbara is the Waterfront neighborhood. Located right on the Pacific Ocean, Waterfront has many dimensions. One part consists of small cottage and ranch-style homes, multi-family homes and apartments. The rest is taken up (from west to east) by the Fess Parker Red Lion Resort, Dwight Murphy Park, the Santa Barbara Zoo, the Andree Clark Bird Refuge, and the Santa Barbara Cemetery. The Pacific Coast Highway is just to the north. Waterfront is just 20 minutes from Santa Barbara Municipal Airport.

The Fess Parker Red Lion (Doubletree) Resort is pet-friendly in two of its buildings, and has a pool, a spa, a fitness center, and several restaurants. It is just one half mile from downtown Santa Barbara.

The Dwight Murphy Park has one softball field, one soccer field, a playground, and a fitness circuit-training course. The park is a favorite of senior citizens.

The 30-acre Santa Barbara Zoo, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Andree Clark Bird Refuge is known as one of the world’s most beautiful zoos. More than 500 animals from 160 different species make their homes here. The zoo has a “feeding sponsorship” program – the yearly donation amount for which depends on the animal.

The 42-acre Andree Clark Bird Refuge is partly a saltwater marsh and freshwater/brackish lake. It is one of the largest wildlife refuges in Santa Barbara County.

Schools serving the Waterfront area include Santa Barbara High School, and San Roque School. Two highly regarded colleges are also in the area; namely Westmont College and Santa Barbara City College.
