Pico Neighborhood

The Pico neighborhood of Santa Monica is part of an internationally known resort town, a tourist destination, and a community in Southern California. Pico is a middle-class neighborhood of singles, couples, and families who live in houses, townhouses, and apartments. Half of the population owns their homes.

Lincoln Boulevard, Centinela Avenue, Colorado Avenue, and Pico Boulevard border Pico. It is close to highways 1, 10, and 90. The award-winning Big Blue Bus is the major form of transportation within Santa Monica and for Los Angeles destinations. The Los Angeles County’s bus lines also serve the neighborhood. The Metro subway is used for local travel. Pico, as part of the city of Santa Monica, is a pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly community. Santa Monica Airport is operated by the city, and the Los Angeles International Airport is a few miles away.

Colleges and universities close to the neighborhood include Santa Monica College; UCLA; Mount St. Mary’s College; Pepperdine University; and California State University, Northridge.

Although Pico is close to the restaurants, shopping, events, and tourist destinations of Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Malibu, and other Los Angeles cities, the neighborhood has its own local attractions. The neighborhood is close to Clover Park, Memorial Park, Palisades Park, Reed Park, International Chess Park, Broadway Park, and Schader Park.

Off-leash dog parks include Memorial, Joslyn, and Airport.

Family-friendly attractions include Pacific Park, Ocean Front Walk, Muscle Beach, Hippodrome Carousel, Playland Arcade, and Santa Monica Pier Aquarium.

Outside of the neighborhood, Pico is close to the popular tourist destinations of Disneyland and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Pico Boulevard has shopping and services for its residents and tourists.
