Valle Lindo South Neighborhood

The Valle Lindo neighborhood of South El Monte, California is a great place for outdoor adventures because most of this area is open recreational land. All of this is made possible by the Whittier Narrows Dam, a flood control project created in 1957. This is the area where the Rio Hondo and San Gabriel Rivers meet and are channeled through the hills in the San Gabriel Valley.

The northern border follows Broadmead Street through the Whittier Narrows Dam County Recreational Area. The west is bordered by open land roughly along Lincoln Avenue. The southern border crosses though the Streamland Park and the Pico Rivera Municipal Golf Course. The furthest portion on the east is the intersection of Interstate 60 and 605.

The residences of this mature neighborhood are single-family homes, duplexes, and apartments. Durfee Avenue is the heart of this vicinity where shopping and dining are located.

There are two schools in the Ville Londo neighborhood. The New Temple Elementary School is grades K-3 and the Dean L. Shively Elementary School is 4-8. Both schools have playground parks. The Dean L. Shively School is also the location for the Little League Fields.

The biggest attraction is Whittier Narrows. The Bosque Del Rio Hondo Park is a five-acre wetland where visitors can watch wildlife. Legg Lake doesn’t allow boating, but it has picnic areas and great fishing. Residents can bike around the lake or play softball. Whittier Narrows also includes North Lake and Center Lake. Other activities in this area are hiking and horseback riding. There is a place for skeet shooting, and residents can golf at the Pico Rivera Municipal Golf Course. Whittier Narrows is where the residents of the Valle Lindo neighborhood like to be.
