Newhall Ranch Neighborhood

Newhall Ranch, within the unincorporated area of Stevenson Ranch, is a new community created in one of the fastest growing regions in Southern California. Although it is new and still under construction in several areas, it has been subdivided into several “villages” with their own town centers, schools, and residential streets. These villages are called Potrero, Homestead, Landmark, and Mission.

Like many communities in the Santa Clarita Valley, it is a planned neighborhood, carved from the black-oak forests on the golden brown foothills of the Santa Susana Mountains. The foothills and canyon of these mountains serve as a natural barrier to the west and south of the community. Golden State Freeway (Interstate 5) forms the eastern border while Newhall Ranch Road (State Route 126) serves as its northern border.

Despite being new, Newhall Ranch is located near some historically significant towns and popular attractions in Southern California. One such place is Six Flags Magic Mountain off Valencia Boulevard and Interstate 5. It is one of the largest and most popular amusement parks in Los Angeles County.

The community – as well as the rest of Stevenson Ranch – is located near the historic oil-mining town of Mentryville. This particular town was founded in 1875 after oil reserves were discovered there. The town has been preserved as a historic park and is currently owned by the Santa Monica Mountains.

On the other side of the Golden State Freeway are several key educational institutions. Northeast of the community is College of the Canyons in Valencia, a two-year community college. Directly east of Newhall Ranch is California Institute of the Arts (Cal-Arts). This world renowned institute was created by Walt Disney and has trained animators and movie-makers since the 1960s.

Other attractions are Valencia Golf Course Valencia Marketplace, and Stevenson Ranch Shopping Center.
