The city of Colorado Springs, with a population over 380,000, lies 69 miles south of Denver, Colorado. The 14,114 foot Pike’s Peak dominates the city’s skyline.

Colorado Springs is in effect a military town. The Army’s Fort Carson, along with two Air Force Bases and the U.S. Air Force Academy, can all be found near the city. Further, the nearby Cheyenne Mountain plays host the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).

Colorado Springs is a clean city and a favorite of retirees. The climate is mild and temperatures do not fluctuate much. Colorado Springs tops many lists as one of the best places to live in the country.

Downtown living gives residents convenient access to all of the city’s attractions. Several different types of residences are available in the neighborhood, including single-family homes, lofts, high-rise condos, and brownstones. Prices range from around $250 thousand to $1.8 million.

Activities around “The Springs” are many and varied. The downtown area is relatively small and highly walkable, with several small shops and restaurants. The nearby Acacia Park is a great place for the kids.

The nearby Flying W Ranch, besides being a great place to catch dinner and a show, is also a working cattle ranch.

Pike’s Peak is known as the inspiration for the song “America the Beautiful.” Visitors can reach the summit in two traditional ways: the Pike’s Peak Highway or the Cog Railway.

The Garden of the Gods can be found at Pike’s Peak. This spectacular place is made up of giant red sandstone formations. The peak also offers easy hiking and horseback riding trails.
