East Colfax Neighborhood

East Colfax is a neighborhood in Denver, Colorado. The neighborhood is framed by Quebec Street to the west, 11th Avenue to the south, Montview Boulevard and 23rd Avenue to the north, and Dayton Street to the east.

Residents of East Colfax are heavily diverse in race and background. The community is home to many young families with the average age between 20-35 years of age. Median family income in the area is $33,000 per year. Many of the homes in the area were built prior to 1970 with many buildings built in the early 1900s. The average home value in the area is $200,000.

Neighboring the East Colfax neighborhood is one of the largest area colleges: Johnson and Wales University. This large school provides a wide variety of educational programs for students seeking Bachelor’s degrees. Some of the programs include Business, Culinary Arts, Criminal Justice, Hospitality, and a variety of other programs, as well as graduate degree opportunities.

Across the street from Johnson and Wales on Montview Boulevard is the Denver School of the Arts. This school is hugely popular with area middle school and high school students. The school is designed for grades 6-12 and focuses heavily on the arts. Art programs, drama, music, and a variety of other educational programs motivate students while focusing on their passions.

Also in the area off the corner of Montview Boulevard and Spruce Street is Greenway Park. The park also has four tennis courts that are used regularly by area tennis players. One of the biggest draws to the park is the large open area at the Stapleton Off-Leash Dog Park. This large, open park for dogs is a favorite of dog-owning residents throughout the surrounding area.
