Washington Park West is a large neighborhood in Denver, Colorado. The neighborhood is framed by Alameda Avenue to the north, Broadway Street to the west, Interstate 25 to the south, and Downing Street to the east.
One of the biggest destinations in Washington Park West is Washington Park, located along the eastern edge of the neighborhood. This large, scenic park is very well maintained, and is bordered by Smith Lake to the north and Grasmere Lake to the south. In the middle of Washington Park is a large grassy area that is used for baseball, football, and soccer.
For the more active area residents, Washington Park provides some excellent opportunities for recreational boating and fishing in both Grasmere and Smith Lake. Paved trails line the park, providing miles of exercise for the many area walkers, joggers, skaters, and cyclists. Washington Park also has ten high-quality tennis courts.
Another major area destination is the University of Denver, a major educational and cultural center in the region. The school hosts a variety of area events at the University of Denver Magness Arena, one of the largest Denver area venues. The arena hosts numerous concerts, presentations, and sporting events. It is also the home of the Denver Pioneers basketball and volleyball teams. The Denver Ice Arena also plays host to a variety of local hockey games, a popular Colorado sport.
