Ashwood Neighborhood

The Ashwood neighborhood is located in Golden, Colorado, the county seat of Jefferson County. The neighborhood is oddly shaped and very roughly bordered on the north side by West Colfax Avenue, on the east by Welch Street, on the south by West 8th Avenue, and on the west by Colorado Mills Parkway. Average home prices are in the mid to high $200,000s.

The Welchester Grant Tree Park is within the southern portion of the neighborhood. It is an 18-acre area of open space. There is a short trail that winds along a stream and through appealing attractions like the historic grove of trees from the 1878 Timber Culture Act. Just southwest of the neighborhood is the William Frederick Hayden Park on Green Mountain. Offering 2,400 acres of open space and challenging multi-use trails, the park’s summit sits 6,800 miles above sea level and presents hikers with unique views of the Denver area. The park is inhabited by several different forms of wildlife, including mule deer, rattle snakes, hawks, and coyotes. Mountain lions even make an occasional appearance.

The historic Golden Hill Cemetery is located just northeast of the neighborhood and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. The Jefferson County Fairgrounds lie south of the Ashwood neighborhood, just across Highway 6.

Schools in the area include Welchester Elementary School and the Rocky Mountain Deaf School. The Saint Anthony Medical Campus is nearby, as is the Red Rocks Community College and the Warren Occupation Technical Center. Applewood Grove Shopping Center and the Market Square Shopping Center are just a short drive away.
