Claymont, DE Apartments for Rent

Although not incorporated until 1864, Clark can trace its history back to the 17th century, when it was part of an early village. A building from that time, the Robinson Plantation House, was built around 1690 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is now a museum with many of its original features intact, including the beams, gunstock posts, flooring, framework, and overhang. The museum hosts a Civil War Reenactment and Living History weekend annually.

Between Wilmington and Philadelphia on the Delaware River, the charming city of Claymont has a history that dates back centuries. During the 1600s, it served as a stop along the King’s Highway, the route that joined Charleston and Boston. The settlement was finally named Claymont in 1856.

The Robinson House was built in 1723 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Block House is also located on the property, and is the only remaining structure of the Naaman’s Creek settlement. The Block House was constructed around 1654 by the last governor of the New Sweden Colony. It is believed to be the oldest building in Delaware. Other historic locations in Claymont include the Darley House, Archmere Academy, and the Claymont Stone School.

When you choose your Claymont apartment to rent, you’ll enjoy a quiet community with tree-lined streets and attractive parks. You’ll also have easy access to major metro areas, including Philadelphia and Baltimore.
