Bradenton, FL Apartments for Rent

What do you get when you mix artists, manatees, beautiful beaches, and a mermaid or two? The answer is Bradenton, Florida! This terrific location is known as the “Friendly City.” Perhaps it is the endless Florida sunshine, the long stretches of white sand beaches, the gentle giants (manatees) that lumber just offshore, the sailboats dotting the river, or the slower pace, but Bradenton is definitely friendly – not to mention a fantastic place to live.

Bradenton is 12 miles north of Sarasota and roughly 45 miles south of Tampa. This west coast city is minutes from some of the best beaches in the world – including Siesta Key, Longboat Key, and Anna Maria Island. Life in Bradenton revolves around the sea – beachcombing, paddle-boarding, swimming, fishing, boating, and sunbathing. If you are moving to an apartment in Bradenton, don’t forget your sandals and sunscreen – you’ll need both!

Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto first explored Bradenton in 1539. “Bradentown” was first established in 1842, and the current city of Bradenton was established in 1943. Because of this long history, Bradenton features several historic locations. After moving to Bradenton, you may notice the landmark Iron Block Building, located on Old Main Street across from the courthouse downtown. This unique cast-iron style building dates back to 1896.

Speaking of the courthouse, it’s probably not what you’d expect – it is a small, wooden building complete with blue shutters and is set on blocks. The Old Manatee Courthouse was built in 1860 and is the oldest surviving county courthouse in the state. It is part of Manatee Village Historical Park and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The (relatively newer) Manatee County Courthouse is also on the National Register of Historic Places – it was built in 1913.

As you explore Bradenton, be sure to visit the Village of the Arts. This 36-acre neighborhood is home to a variety of artists, art galleries, studios, and workshops. You’ll also discover terrific restaurants and shops to explore. Not only will you find all types of art from pottery to watercolor paintings to stained glass to quilting, you’ll also be delighted by this neighborhood’s vibrant buildings, painted in bright colors.
