Bowden Neighborhood

The community of Bowden is unique in several ways. Situated on US Highway 1 and close to Interstate 95, the neighborhood is quite close to major transportation veins. It is also within a few miles of the Atlantic Ocean, and it is close to other recreational places.

Bowden is located near Curtis Lovelace Park. This park, at a little less than 40 acres, was created after the death of Curtis Lovelace in the 70s. It currently features a hiking path, play area, and is set amidst tranquil pine trees.

A little further away and at just over 25 acres, is Drew Park. Drew Park features two adult and one youth softball fields, paved trails, picnic tables, lighted areas, and more.

San Jose Country club, within a couple of miles of the neighborhood of Bowden, offers almost 7,000 feet of tees. This is an 18-hole course, well manicured, and it is mostly on Bermuda grass. It isn’t unusual to see wildlife around the greens, giving the area additional, though unplanned, appeal.

The ocean provides yet more recreation, including fishing, sunbathing, walking, and boating.

The community is also served by a couple of larger shopping centers, as well as many local businesses. There are several hotels and motels in the area, as well as restaurants. This is great for both the local neighborhood and their guests, and it is ideal for a community like Bowden, located so close to the ocean beaches. Businesses include insurance companies, fitting for a coastal community.

Bowden also has several churches. The numerous schools include San Jose Elementary School as well as several community colleges and learning centers.

Many of the people in the neighborhood are less than 30 years of age, educated, and in the lower to middle income levels.

Housing in Bowden is variable, from apartments and modest homes, to more expensive houses, most adorned with various plants, which grow well in the area.
