Conway Neighborhood

An area once engulfed by sweet-smelling orange groves, Conway has a rich history. The first settlement in the area was at Fort Gatlin in 1838, a series of forts built to help pioneers protect themselves against the Seminole Indians.

Today, Conway is dominated by concrete block and frame one-story homes with yards peppered with large oak trees. Conway is also home to older apartment complexes built in the 1970s and 1980s. Commuters like the area because it sits midway between downtown and Semoran Boulevard, one of Orlando’s busiest thoroughfares. Residents also have easy access to the Orlando International Airport, which is only a 15 to 20 minute drive.

Located in the 32812 zip code area, Conway is bordered on the north by Curry Ford Road, on the south by Lake Margaret Drive, on the west by Conway Gardens Road, and on the east by Conway Road.

Conway residents are fortunate to have easy access to some of the best public park facilities in Orlando: Cypress Grove Park is an 80-acre complex with large fields, a playground, and a renovated 1925 estate house that can be reserved for weddings, meetings, and receptions; Fort Gatlin Recreation Complex has a tennis center and an Olympic-size swimming pool; the 66-acre Barber Park has an outdoor roller hockey rink, three soccer fields, fishing, and a playground; Turnbull Park is a 2.5-acre park with a playground and picnic tables; and Warren Park is an 8-acre park with a small sand beach and multipurpose ball fields.

A gathering spot for many Conway residents is the Dover Shores Community Center and Pool at 1400 Gaston Foster Road, which has a 9,000 square-foot gymnasium, fitness center, computer lab, multi-purpose rooms, conference room, and two kitchens. Outdoor amenities include tennis courts, a baseball field, two racquetball courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool, a golf training complex, picnic tables and a covered pavilion.
