Lake Sunset Neighborhood

Populated by working-class families and single residents, Lake Sunset is filled with simple, one-story, concrete block homes. The neighborhood, not surprisingly, is set around the large Sunset Lake, which sits in the middle of the community. Most of the homes in Lake Sunset tend to be in the $50-to-$90 thousand price range, although there are a few higher priced homes in the $150,00 range.

Located in the 32805 zip code area, Lake Sunset is bordered on the north by the East/West Expressway (408), on the south by Orange Center Boulevard, on the west by South John Young Parkway, and on the east by South Tampa Avenue. Residents enjoy the easy access to both 408 and South John Young Parkway.

Lake Sunset residents are a less than a five-minute drive from George Barker Park on Clear Lake, an expansive, cypress-lined lake popular with boaters and anglers. This 7-acre park has a fishing pier, picnic areas, and a playground. The closest park, however, is Lizzie Rodgers Park at 2130 Long Street. Named for a local resident and humanitarian, this 3-acre park features picnic tables and a playground.

Students living in Lake Sunset generally attend Jones High School, which receives a great deal of community support for their athletic, arts, and music programs. Jones High School also has an innovative Medical Arts magnet program designed for post-secondary students seeking a profession in the health care field. Other programs include an AP Program, APEX Scholars, Duel Enrollment, ESOL, and JROTC.

A drive around the Lake Sunset neighborhood will demonstrate the community’s pride in Jones High, with residents prominently displaying the school’s distinctive green and orange colors. Jones High football games at the Citrus Bowl bring the community together in support of their local team.
