Drew Park Neighborhood

Drew Park is an older neighborhood dating back to the 1920s when the area was Drew Field. The area, once used as a municipal airfield, served during WWII as an Army B-17 bomber base and location for recruits.

During Drew Park’s time as a military base, barracks were constructed to house military personnel. Over the years, the barracks were converted and rented out as small apartments, served as an elementary school in the ’60s, and used for business purposes.

Drew Park currently consists of residential homes, apartments, markets, and a variety of businesses.

Within the Drew Park neighborhood, Hillsborough Community College’s Dale Mabry campus encompasses several acres at Drew Park’s southern border. The Borden’s Milk Company, home of Elsie the Cow, once occupied student housing across from the campus.

The Drew Park neighborhood has easy access to two major thoroughfares, Hillsborough Avenue and Dale Mabry Highway.

Within walking distance from the Drew Park neighborhood is the 132-acre Al Lopez Park with two walking/jogging tracks, fishing pond, enclosed play area for dogs, children’s area complete with play equipment, playing field, and covered picnic shelters. An on-site recreation center offers a selection of classes and events.

Also within walking distance from Drew Park is Raymond James Stadium, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers facility, and George M. Steinbrenner Field.

A short drive from Drew Park is St. Joseph’s Hospital, Women’s Care Florida, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, and Tampa Eye & Specialty Surgery Center.

The closest shopping malls to Drew Park are International Plaza and Westshore Plaza.

The nearest schools to the Drew Park are Alexander Elementary School, W. G. Pierce Middle School, and Leto High School.
