Dixie Hills Neighborhood
Dixie Hills is a medium-sized, upper-middle-class community in the greater Atlanta area. With a population of just over 3,000, it has an area of 0.931 square miles. The majority of homes in the Dixie Hills area are single-family, detached homes of varying styles, including Mediterranean; ranch-style; bungalows; mobile homes; and two-story, classic American houses. Townhouses, two-unit structures, and apartment complexes also provide housing for Dixie Hills’ residents.
Joseph E. Boone Boulevard serves as the northern border for the Dixie Hills neighborhood, while the southernmost parts of the neighborhood extend to Interstate 20. West Lake Avenue marks the westernmost part of the community, while the easternmost part of Dixie Hills is unofficially bounded by Sewanee Avenue Northwest.
The massive Anderson Park is a very popular attraction located within Dixie Hills. The community park consists of 56.7 acres. It offers a swimming pool, a playground for children, an athletic field, two baseball fields, a softball field, two pavilions with grills, and picnic tables with shelter.
Dixie Hills is a very family-friendly neighborhood. Anderson Park Elementary School is named after the neighborhood’s park and is every bit as much a thing of pride for the community as the park itself. Other nearby schools serving the community include Henry McNeal Turner Middle School, University Community Academy, White Elementary School, F.L. Stanton Elementary School, Douglass High School, and Grove Park Elementary School. Many of the community’s children also go to the Harland Boys & Girls Club, located just two miles southeast of the Dixie Hills community.
While there are some small shops in the neighborhood, several major shopping centers are within a 10-minute drive. The Hightower Station Shopping Center is only a mile west of the community. The Mall West End is just over two miles from Dixie Hills. The Mall at Peachtree Center is less than four miles east of the neighborhood.
