Lakewood Neighborhood

Lakewood, which includes the area of Lakewood Heights, is best known for its neighboring park and for the history and architecture of its many buildings. Some structures date as far back as the 1920s.
Without a doubt, the crown jewel of the area is Lakewood Park, home of the Lakewood amphitheater. Thought to be one of the best concert venues in the Southeast, the amphitheater has seen some of the biggest names in music, as well as performances by up and coming artists.

Several smaller parks can be found in the Lakewood area, offering residents walking and bike trails plus open green spaces. There are also a variety of relatively affordable housing options in this community, including apartments, condos, and single-family houses. Housing prices range from $650 a month to rent a one-bedroom apartment to the mid $70,000s to purchase a single-family home.

A number of cultural and historic landmarks are located within a few miles of Lakewood. They include the Georgia Capitol and Museum, the Herndon Home Museum, the Fox Theater, and the Wren’s Nest Museum. Most of these attractions are a bit farther than most people would care to walk, but bus and train service is available throughout the area.

With access to both Interstates 75 and 85 at their doorsteps, Lakewood residents can easily reach some of the city’s favorite shopping and dining areas, including Buckhead, Midtown, and downtown Atlanta. The local transit system also provides convenient connecting services to areas not on the main bus and train lines at no additional cost to patrons.

In addition to the venue at the amphitheater, residents can easily reach the Georgia World Congress Center and Phillips Arena. For sports fans, Turner Field and the Atlanta Motor Speedway are also fairly accessible to members of the Lakewood community.
