Goshen Neighborhood

About 11 miles south of downtown Augusta, Georgia is Goshen neighborhood. On the north end of this neighborhood is Goshen Plantation Golf Club. To the south and east are acres of forest and pocket communities, similarly carved out of the local woodlands. To the west is Goshen Lake, a draw for fly fishermen looking for steelhead trout and bass. The neighborhood itself is cone shaped, and it sits in the v-shaped area of land created by the intersection of Goshen Road and Waynesboro Road.

Augusta is home to the Augusta National Golf Club. This golf club gets national exposure as host of the Masters Tournament, an annual event that began in 1934. The golfing elite compete in The Masters in pursuit of the coveted Green Jacket. Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer are just a few of the greats that have more than one of these emerald coats in their closets. The city, founded in 1736, is named for Princess Augusta, also known as the Princess of Wales, who lived during the reign of Britain’s King George II.

Development of Goshen started in the 1970s, although homes are still being added to this day. Designs range from sprawling ranch style houses to mini-mansions made of hewn cypress logs with picture windows and wrap-around porches. Condos are also available in Goshen, and some even overlook the golf course.

Goshen Elementary School lies on Waynesboro Road, while Crosscreek High School sits about a mile north. The closest church is the Santidham Temple of Augusta off of Goshen Road. Meadowwood Shopping Center sits about six miles north. The locally owned Pinehill Grocery and a Dollar General Store occupy the southern end of Goshen.
