Clayton County, Georgia is located 12 miles south of Atlanta, within the five-county core of the Atlanta metro area. The county’s population is just under 274,000, and its county seat is Jonesboro. The county is located in the Piedmont region, between the Coastal Plain and the Appalachian Mountains.

Clayton State University is a public university with an enrollment of 6,785 students. Its wooded campus covers an area of 163 acres and features several ponds and a lake. The school is a part of the Division II NCAA sports in basketball, soccer, cross-country, tennis, golf and cheerleading programs.
Clayton State University’s School of Business and College of Health enjoy state-wide reputations. The Harry S. Downs Continuing Education Center offers multiple language programs, and is also a venue for conferences and special events.
