Downtown Columbus is a rather large, densely populated neighborhood of Columbus, Georgia. It is included in the 31901 zip code. With an area of 1.74 square miles, it has a population of almost 3,000 residents. Most of the housing in the neighborhood is apartments or condos, while 20 percent are single-family detached houses of varying styles.
Cultural attractions abound in and near the Downtown neighborhood. The Columbus Black History Museum is only steps to its south, while the Bradley Company Museum is just blocks to its west. The Coca-Cola Space Science Center is a half-mile to the southwest. The Columbus Museum is a mile to its east. The National Civil War Naval Museum, the Greene Museum, the National Infantry Foundation, and Carson McCuller’s Center are within a two-mile radius.
It also provides several nearby escapes for those who love the outdoors. Woodruff Park is only about a half-mile to its west. It has open parkland and a soccer field. Memorial Stadium is a mile to its south, while Golden Ball Park is just under a mile to its south. The latter park hosted professional baseball through 2008 and is still a popular sports park.
The commercial location of the Downtown Columbus neighborhood also means that it’s located close to many of the best shops and restaurants in the area. Ruth Ann’s Restaurant, Picasso Pizza, and The Cannon Brew Pub are within the community. Houlihan’s is a half-mile to its southwest. Mario’s is only blocks to its west. Burger King, Subway, Coffee Beanery, and Top Hat are also within a half-mile radius.
