Dunwoody, GA Apartments for Rent
Dunwoody, Georgia is roughly 10 miles north of Atlanta, just outside the Perimeter. It is sandwiched between Sandy Springs to the west and Norcross to the east. Dunwoody is a popular Atlanta suburb, but this thriving city has plenty to offer on its own. It is home to a variety of businesses, Perimeter Mall, and Dunwoody Country Club. This city offers a variety of terrific parks, hiking and biking trails, and it is home of the Dunwoody Arts Festival.
Dunwoody is a young city -- it didn’t incorporate until 2008. But Dunwoody’s history begins long before then, in the early 1800s. The area was named in honor of Charles Dunwoody, whose family founded the Roswell Manufacturing Company. After the Civil War, much of the railroad line that extended from Roswell to Atlanta had been destroyed. Charles moved to the Dunwoody area and was responsible for developing a town near the new railroad that stopped in present-day Dunwoody.
Today, there are several historic sites in Dunwoody, including the Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church (built in 1829). This is the oldest building in the city, and the church cemetery is where several of Dunwoody’s earliest settlers are buried. Other historic locations include the Railroad Section Gang House, built in 1880, and the Swancy Farmhouse, built in 1889.
Apartments in Dunwoody provide so much more than convenient access to Downtown Atlanta. Shopping at the upscale Perimeter Mall; enjoying the restaurants, wine bars, and cafes; and visiting the extensive parks system will keep you busy. Be sure to stop in Alon’s Bakery and Market, where you’ll find locally-produced and made-from-scratch items. Brook Run Park features a skate park, a huge playground, an off-leash dog park, hiking trails, and a zip-line called Treetop Quest. After renting a Dunwoody apartment, you’ll also be able to enjoy Food Truck Thursdays, Dunwoody Restaurant Week, Lemonade Days, and the Butterfly Festival.
